Ian Restall
Managing Partner
With a distinguished legal career spanning decades, Ian Restall is the Managing Partner of Restall & Restall LLP. A graduate of Oxford University, the University of Victoria, and the University of Winnipeg, Ian has earned numerous academic awards, including the British Columbia Law Society Gold Medal. His legal expertise covers corporate and commercial law, real estate, estate planning, and more. Throughout his career, Ian has been dedicated to providing strategic legal solutions, earning the trust of clients across Manitoba and Canada.
Beyond his legal practice, Ian makes significant contributions to legal education and community service. He continues to lecture at the University of Manitoba and has lectured at the University of Winnipeg, shaping the next generation of professionals. His involvement in various professional boards and charitable initiatives underscores his commitment to both the legal profession and the broader community. A Journey from Winnipeg to Oxford
Ian was raised in the Inner-city of the North End of Winnipeg, graduating from St. John’s High School. He then attended the University of Winnipeg, graduating first of his class and was presented with the University of Manitoba Award for Excellence.
Upon his graduation, he attended the University of Victoria Law School, graduating with a First-Class average and obtaining the British Columbia Law Society Gold Medal and prize for the highest standing in the faculty. Subsequent to his Bachelor of Laws, Ian attended the graduate program at the University of Oxford on full scholarship, thereafter obtaining his Graduate Law Degree.
Upon his graduation, he attended the University of Victoria Law School, graduating with a First-Class average and obtaining the British Columbia Law Society Gold Medal and prize for the highest standing in the faculty. Subsequent to his Bachelor of Laws, Ian attended the graduate program at the University of Oxford on full scholarship, thereafter obtaining his Graduate Law Degree.
Where Scholarship Meets Practice
Upon his return to Winnipeg, Ian initiated his university teaching career at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Law and continues to teach at the Asper School of Business. Alongside his teaching responsibilities, he maintains an active practice focused on the following areas:

• General Business Law and Contracts
• Employment Law
In addition to his teaching and professional pursuits, over his career, he has been highly involved in various community activities, including, but not limited to, the following:
- Church Council Chairman and Deacon at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
- Member of the University of Winnipeg Senate and Board of Regents.
- Member of the Board of Trustee of the Sir William Samuel Stevenson Scholarship.
- Board member of the Certified General Accountants of Manitoba.
- Member of the Discipline Committee of the Certified Professional Accountants of Manitoba.
- Vice-Chair of the Manitoba Law Foundation.
- Vice-Chair of the Manitoba Mining Board.
- Member of the Manitoba School Board Boundary Review Commission.
- Board member of the Manitoba Opera Society.
- Currently a member of the board of Directors of the Winnipeg Convention Centre.
- Vice-Chair of Manitoba Housing and Renewal Corporation.
