Jon Van Der Krabben
Family Law
Jon was born and raised in Winnipeg and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Winnipeg (1985) and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Manitoba (1988). Jon was called to the Bar in 1989 and until 2007, practiced in Steinbach, Manitoba. Jon's preferred area of practice is Family Law, although he also practices in the areas of Real Estate and Wills and Estates.
Jon is a member of the Canadian Bar Association (Manitoba Branch) and is a life member of the Manitoba Bar Council as well as having served as an executive member of the Family Law Subsection of the Manitoba Bar Association for approximately five years. As a representative of the Family Law Subsection, Jon previously served on both the Case Management Review Committee and Automated Court Orders Committee.
Jon is also a life member of the Law Society of Manitoba, having served as a bencher of the Law Society continuously from 2000 through to May, 2008. Jon was president of the Law Society of Manitoba from May, 2006 until May, 2007. During his time with the Law Society, Jon sat on or chaired most Law Society commites. Jon was formerly the Law Society of Manitoba’s appointee to the Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education (CPLED Board) (2008 - May, 2011) and also served two terms, totalling four years, as one of three Law Society appointees to the Manitoba Law Foundation Board. Jon also served upon the Manitoba Chiropractors’ Association Standards Board (2006 – 2010) and as a Board member of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Winnipeg from 1996 to 2001. Jon is currently a member of the Law Society’s Discipline Committee and is one of the Law Society representatives on the Paralegal Steering Committee.
Previously, Jon was a lecturer in Family Law at the former Bar Admission Course from 1999 to 2002. Jon has been a Learning Group facilitator for the Manitoba portion of the CPLED course in Family Law and Wills in 2005 and from 2007 to the present.
Between 2006 and 2010 Jon was a member of six different Provincial Court Judicial Nominating Committees in Winnipeg, Thompson and The Pas and has been the Law Society representative on the federal Judicial Advisory Committee (Manitoba) since November of 2011.
As of November 1, 2007, together with two partners, Jon established the boutique firm Antymniuk van der Krabben Schaan LLP in south Winnipeg. However, as of July 1, 2019 Jon has been practicing at Restall & Restall LLP. His preferred area of practice is family law.
In his free time, Jon enjoys travelling, hockey, golf and music
